PART 1: THE FUNDAMENTALS OF APPLIED ORGANIZATIONAL DESIGN & TRANSFORMATION

  • Limited to 12 participants, this 16 hour workshop will prepare participants to explain, align to strategy, assess, sell, scope, set success metrics and criteria, resource and plan the execution of an organizational design effort. The workshop will cover different types of real business scenarios requiring organizational design and sometimes full scale transformation. The course will include how strategy, customer experience, project, change management and talent/workforce transition fit within the overall design effort. We will learn how transformation as a science and art underpins redesign efforts. Participants knowledge will be tested through a simulation of a set of actual mock discussions and final presentation with executives who want a proposal for a redesign. Pre-read is required as well as evening group preparation.

PART 2: LAUNCHING THE DESIGN PROJECT: FROM KICK-OFF TO IMMERSION IN STRATEGIC DESIGN

  • Limited to 12 participants, this 24 hour workshop will provide practical tools for launching an organizational design or transformation project, preparing oneself for the role of transformation agent, setting up effective governance, determining the business capabilities or customer experience the design will achieve and setting design criteria. The learning will then turn to starting strategic design harnessing an adapted version of the Jay Galbraith STAR model for design (designing the first 2-3 levels in the organization looking at vertical and lateral design. We will explore design options as well as bridge designs. We will also cover how to set up high leverage projects that were determined in the initial organizational design assessment that will be critical to business success. Participants knowledge will be tested through a simulation of a set of actual mock discussions of strategic design options with senior executives and selection of the final strategic design for testing. Pre-read is required as well as evening group preparation.

PART 3: DEEP DESIGN: THE INTRICACIES OF LATERAL DESIGN AND COMPLETION OF OPERATIONAL DESIGN

  • Limited to 12 participants, this 16 hour workshop will equip participants to design horizontally across the organization. To break down silos and drive collaboration acr oss the value stream. It will also teach participants how to design deep into the operational layers of the organization ensuring that all employees understand the purpose and outcomes the new design will achieve as well as new working norms. They will lea rn how to harness SMEs and change agents to test the reality of the design. They will also learn how to partner with change mgmt, six sigma, talent mgmt, workforce planning and HR professionals to ensure effective transition planning for standup of the new design. Participants knowledge will be tested through a simulation of lateral design chartering and operational design. Pre-read is required as well as evening group preparation.

PART 4: PREPARING THE NEW DESIGN FOR STAND UP & ADAPTING THE DESIGN FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS

  • Limited to 12 participants, this 16 hour workshop will prepare participants to plan, sequence and prepare the design for roll out to employees. The organization will have to change while keeping the business running. This part of design is where "the rubber hits the road". If the design has not been vetted with people who know how work gets done it will falter and likely fail. We will discuss the application of program management and the different roles played in the stand up of the new organization. We will also learn to set up mechanisms for testing and adapting the design and ensuring the culture of the organization sees it as a normal part of day to day operations. Participant’s knowledge will be tested through a simulation of sequencing, program planning and addressing common adaptations required in design. Pre-read is required as well as evening group preparation.
